This is a wonderful facility run for the last 18 years by Laurie, an ex-pat from New England. The house is located in a residential part of the town. Laurie is an exceptionally friendly host. She comes out to warmly greet the guests and even tries to help you carry the luggage, which we had to politely refuse. She's full of energy and enthusiasm. She goes out of the way to make you feel at home. As soon as we settled in, she offered us drinks and chips along with home-made guacamole. Miriam, her assistant attended to all our needs. The house is spacious with a huge living room. Guests also have access to a large terrace that's covered for the most part. She has the whole area furnished. Even on a warm day, there's a cool breeze. One can spend a lot of time in the terrace listening to the calls from birds, reading books or surfing the web because the B&B has an excellent WiFi signal. The Cariari Commercial Center is accessible by foot (5 min. walk) and features a nice grocery store called Fresh Market and several restaurants located on the second floor. Fresh Market has an ATM making it easy to convert dollars into colones. We stayed at the B&B for three fabulous days and will stay there again if we go back to San Jose, Costa Rica.
Laurie is a wonderful hostess --her house is beautiful and very interesting. Tapas on the deck were great fun, and breakfast was fantastic. I was with my 14-year-old grandson, and he enjoyed the pool at the nearby country club, but otherwise there was not that much for a teenager to do on site.
This B&B is well located in a nice neighborhood that is very close to the airport and fairly close to coffee plantations and Poas Volcano. Laurie and Miriam were very sweet and accommodating, making us feel right at home. We stayed here for our last night in the country after 8 days exploring Guanacaste, Tenorio, Arenal and Central Valley. It was great to unwind with a glass of wine on the roof top deck after a busy week and long drive. There were good dinner options a short, comfortable walk down the street, and there was a delicious full breakfast in the morning that catered to our tastes and lactose intolerance. It was a wonderful visit and we wished we could have stayed here another night to explore more of this area. The Doka Coffee Plantation tour was great and less than 1 hour away. Poas Volcano and the nearby Toucan/sloth rescue center would have also been great to see. If renting a car, I do recommend a 4WD if you plan on venturing on your own to any out of the way places (e.g., smaller beaches or national parks). Maps do not distinguish between paved or rocky dirt roads - I suggest asking the locals to confirm drive times for your desired route! One of our Google Maps routes took us more than 1 hour longer than it estimated to drive because it was a windy dirt road (despite being named as a numeric route). Regardless, it was a wonderful trip!
Laurie's place was the last night of our wonderful trip in Costa Rica and we were so disappointed that we did not plan more time here. What a fun place to explore and just look around at all the art and souvenirs that she has collected in all her journeys. I can't say enough about what a neat house and home she has created. Everything was wonderful, clean, cozy and comfortable! Would love to go back and stay again to really appreciate all the details of such a charming place! I would highly recommend to anyone coming into this area to book your nights here and try to stay more than just one!!
We absolutely loved staying at the bed and breakfast. Laurie helped us with whatever we needed and Miriam was such good help. It was clean with hot water, amazing breakfasts, close to the airport, safe, large with a great balcony, and a river running next to it that made for beautiful noise. We enjoyed our time there so much that it was like leaving family once we left. We would love to return with our children and stay there in the future. All tours were able to pick us up directly from the B&B and we were close enough to walk to the market and places to eat. Stay here!! We can't say enough good about it.
Laurie and Mirium go beyond the call of duty. The house is magnificant! Laurie is one of the kindest people I have encountered. Her helper, Mirium, is wonderful. Laurie cooked special meals for me due to my extensive dental work. I highly recommend the b&b to everyone! Safe and close to attractions. I hope Laurie is still there in January. I can't thank her enough.
We stayed in this Beautiful B&B at the beginning and end of our trip. Our bedroom was beautiful and comfortable. Laurie goes out of her way to make you feel you are at home. Only a quick 10 minutes ride from the airport, this is a perfect place to start and end your adventure in Costa Rica. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious! The bed was super comfortable. Thanks Laurie! We really enjoy our stay.
