The lake covers an area of 7,850 sq km (3,030 sq mi) and is home of the largest lake trout ever caught, a whopper at 46.3 kg (101.8 lb). The lake is home to over 20 fish species and the Lake Athabasca Sand Dunes are located near the lake's southern shore.
