Middle Coombe is a beautiful 16/17th century cob & thatch farmhouse, listed grade 2*, nestled in its own sheltered valley with extensive ancient outbuildings. Coombe is surrounded by 200 acres of organic farmland (where we raise our organic beef cattle) and 180 acres of mixed woodland (with wild red deer). An extensive public access footpath network runs throughout, with it's own surprises. The house (available for rent throughout the year) is full of atmosphere and character, much loved and with fine furniture and oak paneling. The sitting room is a beautiful wood-panelled space with a massive oak-framed window, comfy sofas and a roaring open fire. If you stay for Christmas we give you a lightly decorated tree from the forest then encourage you to go exploring down in the woods for your own additional decorations. In winter the log fire castes a flickering orange glow on the ancient oak panelling. Some people are reading whilst others talk around the large coffee table putting the world to rights. |
