Casa Bonita – An authentic, historic adobe home, sitting on the north side of the “original Taos plaza”, now the La Loma Plaza - which is listed on the National Historic Register. This charming “casa” is conveniently located just three blocks, a comfortable walk, from the heart of Taos Village shops, museums and restaurants.
Remodeling the house in 1986, prominent Northern New Mexico developer Vishu McGhee, took the utmost care to preserve the original, authentic, southwest charm. Shortly after he finished, Casa Bonita was discovered by its current owners (Charlie and Natalie) who became hooked on Taos after a few times skiing the incredible Taos mountain. As they told their story to Premiere, "We didn't need, nor could we afford, a house in Taos. We were just hooked on Taos". One day, just for fun, they toured a few homes to get the "Taos feel".
The next morning they bought Casa Bonita, the first place they had seen the previous day. As "Taos" was for Natalie and Charlie, "Casa Bonita" was love at first sight.
Why Taos and Casa Bonita? Winter warm and summer cool, thick old abobe walls with traditional 4 feet of dirt on the roof (great natural air conditioner and heat retainer) - wood burning kiva fireplace, hand hewn vigas overhead - a tunnel going from a trap door in the front closet toward the center of the old plaza for escape from early invaders. What history is in this special Taos homestead, attached as it is to the historic La Loma chapel - now used 3 or 4 times a year for intimate weddings and baptisms.
As an added bonus, both front and back yards are enclosed for guests with "little ones" and for added privacy and sense of seclusion.
Natalie and Charlie invite you to "Try Casa Bonita. But watch out. You, too, could get hooked on Taos".
