If you desire to visit historic Taos, then Alfred's House is the place for you and your traveling companions! Alfred's House dates back to the earliest settlement and was the miller's house on the Rio Fernando de Taos dating from the early 1700's. The Casita, an original adobe, is intact with a traditional wood-burning kiva which has 1 bedroom, bath, living area, kitchen and separate entry and parking.
Alfred's House is so named in honor of the late Taos icon, Alfred Hobbs, archeologist and early member of a Taos Commune. This was Alfred's home which has been remodeled with every effort to retain the Taos history. The main house includes gas-burning Kivas in the living room and 3 bedrooms designed and built by Taos Pueblo War Chief Benito Sandoval. The house has saltillo tile floors, radiant floor heating, modern kitchen, full laundry, a detached 2-car garage with ample storage space for activity gear. The yards are spacious and allow for one to enjoy the mountain peaks over roof tops and the New Mexico big sky. Original artwork by family artists Rachel, Mary and Bill Barminski adorn the walls of this very well-appointed home.
The den with gas log kiva fireplace and located off the living room offers a "State of the Art" Queen Sleeper sofa, by American Leather (easy to find on line). They get rave reviews with most folks saying they are "more comfortable than any bed" and/or "best night sleep I've had in years". Try it you will be amazed.
An added benefit to this location, which is 1.5 miles from the Taos Plaza off Kit Carson Road, is the ability to access the "local" roads to easily get around town. Close to major roadways leading to the ski valleys nearby and to the natural landmarks, e.g., the Gorge Bridge, the Rio Grande River and the Taos Pueblo.
