About the Owner

As a child every summer my family would vacation in a log cabin in the country. I have such wonderful memories of catching frogs and fireflies, swimming until goose bumps forced me out of the water and sitting around a fire toasting marshmallows, that when the opportunity came along for us to purchase our own log home nestled in the woods, my husband and I didn't have to think twice.  At the time we were living on a parcel of land that was .10 of an acre.  We were both looking for some privacy and as an avid gardener, I was excited about the opportunity to have room to really get my hands dirty. We purchased Granite Lodge and never looked back. The peace, serenity and joy it has brought us both can not be measured. Now we have gotten a bit older and are ready for something new.  We are living on our boat and traveling the U.S. coastline. A new adventure for us and the opportunity to share all that we love about Granite Lodge with you.

Hope Viviani purchased this House in 1989

Why Hope Viviani chose Guilford
We purchased Granite Lodge to live in as our primary home. I was employed in New Haven and my husband worked in the shoreline towns off of I95. Purchasing this property allowed us to have privacy, serenity and the home of our dreams with a commute of only 20 minutes. After upgrading, adding gardens and the pool friends and family started asking us if we would host their weddings, birthday parties and family reunions. Vacation requests followed shortly after and we began to use Granite Lodge as a vacation rental whenever we were traveling.

What makes this House unique
Granite Lodge is conveniently located just 20 minutes from the restaurants, museums, live theater and the many other cultural and family activities New Haven has to offer. Beach and boating are half that distance. Enjoy a Thimble Island cruise departing from neighboring Stony Creek or take a day trip to Mystic Aquarium or Mystic Seaport. Do you think you would like to try your hand at gambling? Both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos are within driving distance and offer gambling and celebrity entertainment. A day spent on the historic Essex steam train and river boat will be enjoyed by all. If shopping makes you smile it's a 20 minute trip down the shoreline to the outlet stores of Clinton Crossing. If staying close to home is your preference, just down the road is the quaint and historical town of Guilford. It is a family friendly town with beaches, parks, playgrounds, historic houses to tour, fine restaurants and fairs and events on the green throughout the summer. At Granite Lodge its all in your own backyard.

Great way to spend our wedding weekend!
Cara S.

We enjoyed this house and grounds for our wedding weekend. It was everything we wanted from the unique atmosphere to the beautiful outdoors. It was a little to chilly to enjoy the pool, but maybe we will be back next summer!.

Many times photos are incredible with quite a different look when you get to your rental house. This property is the same except that the photos are not as amazing as the property is!!! Hope and Joe were great, house was great, grounds were great and our family reunion could not have been better because of it!! Awesome pool!

Magnificent Property, Magnificent Stay
Stuart C.

We loved this property. It is so beautiful and interesting. And Hope and Joe were wonderful hosts, everything from meeting us at the property when we arrived, as well as addressing each of our needs as they arose. The property has a hot tub, fire pit, beautiful swimming pool (although it was too cold to swim this early in the season), and a beautiful lawn in the back. The inside is spacious and well-appointed with a fun kitchen-island-great room, and anything you would need to cook, or perfect for just hanging out and eating cheese and drinking wine. Although you are near Long Island Sound, this is by no means a beach or yacht property; it is a mountain retreat deep in the woods. We loved it. Thank you Hope and Joe. All the best. Wonderful location in and out!
Laura N.

My family (7 adults and a dog) stayed here over a long weekend. Of the many vacation rentals we've enjoyed over the years, this is our favorite! The setting of the house was so peaceful and relaxing, and the house itself was well equipped and impeccably clean. The hardest decision to make was whether to stay in the charming house or enjoy the equally beautiful outdoors! The house has many cozy nooks to relax in and we enjoyed cooking in the modern kitchen. Outside, the natural pool and hot tub were wonderful and the woods and natural landscaping made for a perfect setting to read, visit, walk and relax. Hope and Josie were responsive and welcoming hosts. Highly highly recommended - we hope to return in the future!

Perfect family vacation spot.

The Granite Lodge is perfection. Charming, cozy, spacious, serene! Hosts/owners Hope and Joe were so helpful and accommodating. So much thought and detail in the lodge inside and out. So many spaces for togetherness or privacy. Everything we needed and more was there. We enjoyed a fabulous summer vacation. We will definitey be back. Can’t wait to see and experience the Granite Lodge in the fall. The fireplace is spectacular, the fire pit area one of our favorites. So comfortable for large groups. Very pet friendly.
