The house lies on the northern edge of its own plot of land with a high wall, fence and shrubbery screening us from the house next door. The garden lies to the east, south and west. The plot is elevated about 8' above the road to the west. There is a small private track to the east serving about 5 properties. Beyond this track lies farming land. This appears to be planted in alternate years with sunflowers (2003) and Corn on the cob (2002). Beyond the farm land the ground rises into beautiful old downland hills. This is the view we see from the Verandah :
At the Eastern end of the building the verandah, built of oak posts and beams under a pan tile roof with terracotta floor is very typical of the region. Perfect for sheltered alfresco eating it is furnished with a solid elm dining table and small BBQ.
The Verandah leads through double French doors into the Dining room (approx 13' x 11'). This has a large open fireplace fitted with wood burning stove, beamed ceiling and terracotta floor. A southern window looks over the garden and pool. A central oak dining table and rush seated chairs for dining on cooler evenings.
From the Dining room to the right and up one step into the Kitchen. This has been completely renewed and is fitted with a U shaped range of cream fronted units, pale blue tiles worktops and splash backs. There is a huge new inset "belfast" type double sink, gas hob and electric extractor. Double oven (electric) with grill, fully integrated 12 place dishwasher, integrated fridge and freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster. We hope that we have equipped the kitchen with sufficient utensils and table ware to allow the serious cook to prepare and serve a meal without compromise.
From the Kitchen leads into the cloakroom, this is fitted with low level WC, wash basin and automatic washing machine.
Sitting room Also from the Dining room a half glazed polished door leads to the sitting room. Measuring approx 16' x 13', decorated in pale creams with light beige carpet. The room has two windows to the southern elevation overlooking the garden and pool and a half glazed door outside to the west. Furnished with two settees about a coffee table, various side tables. The walls are hung with a mix of original and printed art. TV, Video and CD/Radio/Cassette stereo.
The sitting room leads through a polished pine door into the double bedroom, (approx 12' x 10') again decorated in pale cream with pale cream carpet, the window opens to the west overlooking the side garden. Furnished with a King size (5') bed, double wardrobe, chest of drawers this is a calm and relaxing room.
This bedroom has its own ensuite shower room, fitted with 4' shower bay, washbasin with mirror over, WC, heater. It is fully tiled in pale marble effect ceramics and brilliantly lit from overhead.
The Sitting room also gives access via a further door to the stairs to the first floor bedroom. This is a very long room and is built into the "Perigordian" style roof over the main section of the house. There are exposed Sweet Chestnut beams and rafters dark stained with white walls. Under the five or six beams which span the room the headroom is just 6'. Fitted with two 3' single beds, wardrobe and chest of drawers. There are two velux windows each fitted with blackout blinds looking to the north and east. Under the northern velux is a built in desk/dressing table, useful for those of us who cannot leave the office at home. There is a clear mobile phone signal.
This bedroom gives access to a private bathroom with white suite of full size bath with shower over, vanity basin and WC.
