Location Information

Blue, sea blue, turquoise, green and even gold. Hot if rippled by the Ponente wind, cold if the Mistral is at work, warm if the sirocco swirls. The sea of Sardinia, with its clean, crystalline waters, is the most sought after destination for those who wish to lose themselves amidst the charming light-blue colours and the fresh scents of its saltiness. The sea of Sardinia, with its transparent waters, contours the island perimeter, consigning it to the myth of paradise-like lands. Once touched by Phoenician boats, today by powerful speedboats moored at the many tourist ports, the sea of Sardinia caresses the beach sand or assails it during stormy days, insinuates among grottos and coves, gets touched by edges of eroded rocks, to be suddenly dominated by overhanging high cliffs. The sea of Sardinia contains a world rich in life and beauty: it is the reign of the monk seal, the Bue Marino, it is inhabited by a numberless variety of fish, shellfish, mussels, and cetaceans, that are a wonder for the numerous divers and a sublime dish for the many food lovers. In the protected marine areas, the glittering colours of Sardinia̢۪s uncontaminated nature both enchant and seduce: from the red rubin of Alghero̢۪s coral to the white-hot platinum of Alicia mirabilis, sparkling at night in the depth of Tavolara̢۪s waters. The sea of Sardinia, heart of the Mediterranean, beats incessantly among its palette of shades.

In a natural park with a wealth of plateaux and plains, artificial lakes and torrents, forests and bush, beaches, buttes and outcrops lies Marina di Barisardo. A sandy seabed with limpid waters and a coast where dazzling coves suddenly appear to break the long white stretches of sand and reefs, pebbles and red porphyry sketch a gorgeous landscape, variegated, rugged and uncontaminated. Cardedu is also a favourite seaside resort for windsurfers because of the strong sirocco winds blowing at 10-15 knots. There are also archaeological treasures scattered on the territory: nuraghi, domus de janas and a scared well (su Presoneddu). The whole area of Ogliastra includes fine white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, cliffs which fall sheer to the sea, age-old woods and dry desert plains. Sailing along the wonderful coast it possible to admire some of the most beautiful bays of the Mediterranean: Cala Gonone, Cala Luna, Cala Goloritzè are nowadays very well-know destinations for tourism.

Sardinian delicacies Simple but rich in natural ingredients, Sardinian cuisine satisfies even the fussiest of palates due to the richness of the territory which in every season gives us products of both delicate and intense tastes, thanks also to the shepherds and farmers who patiently wait to reap what they have sowed and thanks to the climate which ripens our grapes and finally thanks to the excellent Sardinian chefs. Wine, identity of a population A splendid sun shines in Sardinia for the whole year. A sun that matures the plants, and the numerous qualities of grapes that make up the luxuriant long rows of grapevines. From the south to the north, including the coasts and the lagoon areas of the center, the whole regional territory is used for the cultivation of grapes and therefore the production of good wines. Red, privileged Companions of the intense tastes, even spicy or smoked, as those of the famous Sardinian cheeses or seasoned ricottas. Ideal companions for roast meats and of the elaborate desserts.

The best way to discover the beauty and diversity of Sardinia̢۪s interior is on foot. Keen will not be disappointed by the island̢۪s wide choice of hiking possibilities. What the mountains may lack in height, they make up for in the solitude that their untouched wilderness provides. There are few marked routes but many hiking outfits which offer guided excursions. Most of the guides speak English or German as well as Italian and are not just experts on the route and region but also on the island̢۪s flora and fauna. One of the most beautiful hiking areas is without doubt along the Supramonte massif, which runs from Nuoro to Baunei on the east coast. Today, this area remains one of the most unpopulated and rugged areas in Europe. The narrow gorges, imposing chalk rocks, wide plateaus and hidden canyons run in an uninterrupted stretch of natural beauty. In Supramonte di Oliena you can explore the final retreat of the Stone Age Nuraghi people, who fled to a secret cave in Monte Tiscali.

February to November.

Dunes are accumulated sand, constructed and shaped by the wind. They are an integral part of a balanced ecosystem, with the beach and with the wetlands. They form a natural container for the beach and a physical barrier that protects the lagoons and ponds. Together they constitute a unique system that is extremely fragile, that has importance to the environment, nature and landscapes of the Sardinian coast. Their stability depends on multiple natural factors, however human activities and uses can irreparably unbalance this equilibrium. Do not drive on the dunes with cars or other motorised vehicles. Do not walk on the dunes, but to the use the designated paths where present, and existing trails when not. Do not damage the vegetation, the juniper and other plants, which hold the sand and protect the beach from the force of the wind and the sea. The beach is indispensable for the biodiversity. The beach is a coastal deposit of sand, gravel and pebbles. It is both sea and earth. It\'s profile continuously changes over time by the incessant forces of the wind, waves and rivers. It is fed by earth and marine deposits that are transported and transformed from the energy of the sea and is unique in nature for its colour, forms and sounds, generated by the wind and the waves. The sand, the gravel and pebbles belong to the beach. Keep the beach clean and take rubbish away when you leave. if you smoke, take away cigarette butts. Don\'t leave them. Choose a sun cream that is resistant to water: one drop of sun oil can contaminate a bath full of water. Shake out beach towels, rinse equipment and clean feet and shoes from sand before you leave the beach. Don\'t take home sand, rocks, gravel or pebble which help to prevent erosion.

It is often said that Sardinia, thanks to its variety of landscapes, traditions and accents is not an island, but rather a continent. However, it happens that someone who gets to the island may fall in love with a village, a beach, and life rhythms and has not the curiosity of discovering anything else. We advice you, instead, to move and discover villages, naturalistic oases, archaeological treasures and traditional festivals, which our island loves to share with its visitors. It won̢۪t be necessary to cover great distances so as to carve out a holiday inside the holiday, passing quickly from the sea to the mountain, from trekking to artistic tourism, from an archaeological site to the salted mullet role festival. You could choose between thematic itineraries (wine routes, literary landscapes, Romanesque churches, natural parks) or let yourself be guided by your own curiosity, by the call of a patronal feast , by the local people̢۪s suggestions or by your travel-mates. The most important thing is to be willing to encounter and let yourself be enchanted by the constant vanishing of a landscape in another.
