Are you looking for a convenient and comfortable beach getaway? To get here it only takes us a few minutes from Williamsburg and there are no tunnels and the Colonial Parkway rarely has any road rage drivers or traffic jams like those found on the interstate or 158 to Nags Head.
Whether you like to play on the sand beach, bask in the sun, sit in a swing, lay in a hammock, go crabbing, fishing, or boating, or curl up with a good book, or sack out with a good movie, Getaway has it all.
Gloucester is still a community that feels like a small town, much like Nags Head in the early 80's, with lots of local shops and local restaurants, but still has some nice franchises and chain restaurants if you are not but so adventurous.
Traditionally rented by the week, we can make special arrangements for a weekend or split week. Do you have family coming to town? Why not put them up here? |

We are from Roanoke VA and stayed at the Get a Way during my son's graduation from Christopher Newport. We had plenty of space for our family and relatives. The house is very nice and has a great kitchen to prepare meals. It did rain most of our visit but the house is located on the York River, has a very nice beach area and huge backyard with trees. Great for relaxing. We would definitely return to this house for a relaxing vacation.
The house was the perfect base for my daughter's wedding at Gloucester Point. We had family from Texas, Alabama and Pennsylvania who were all able to stay in comfort. The house is clean, roomy and has lots of amenities. We enjoyed the canoe several times. The kids had a great time exploring the house and looking for seashells on the beach. The only drawback was that the water in the bathrooms smelled like sulfur, especially in the master suite.
We had a great time, but were so busy with other activities (Busch Gardens, Water Country, Living History Museum, etc) we didn't get to thoroughly enjoy huge yard and amazing views at the Get-A-Way River house. The property is well equipped and comfortable, the back yard is massive, and the beach area is a nice bonus. We will be back
Several family members from different states rented the house to attend a family reunion in Gloucester, 10 miles away. It is a perfect location. We were blessed with great weather so the kids could play on the little beach and in the yard. There were yard toys and an air hockey game in the garage that the kids enjoyed The kitchen is great. I especially appreciated the separate ice machine which had a workout. There were plenty of plates,especially plastic for kids. Only one glass wineglass so it was mine! The owners are making major improvements in the house. You can tell by the new carpeting throughout and the large TV's in the various rooms. Also a great radio in the kitchen. Great maps on the wall of the area and a neat globe in the living room(geographer's dream) My husband and I had the master bedroom and it was great. I felt guilty it was so spacious and comfortable. The bed and furniture in the master bedroom are really nice. I only have two recommendations. I hope the next improvement will be with the mattresses upstairs. For kids they are fine but the adults need something firmer. There is a cleaning service but they skimped a bit in the kitchen. The rest of the house was spotless. The owners may want to check once in a while to make sure they are getting their money's worth. I called the owner about trash removal and he solved our problem immediately and was glad I called. I highly recommend this house and look forward to coming again someday. If two or three couples came there could be a fight over who got the master bedroom. We ate at Tony and Melina's--We also ate at Sals Pizzeria. Would recommend both.
